Chromium Oxide Coatings

Back in international markets, WTI crude futures briefly dipped below $100 a barrel, while Brent crude hit its lowest intraday level in nearly two weeks. Spot gold briefly fell below $1,900 an ounce. Comex gold futures closed down 1.1 percent at $1,918.4 an ounce. Comex silver futures closed down 1.14 percent at $24.91 an ounce. "Recently, crude oil prices have been extremely sensitive to changes in geopolitical news." Traders believe that the current oil price is still in the broad impact, Ukraine will still be a premium in the case, although the market further decline, but should not be too pessimistic, it is recommended to wait and see for the time being. Chromium oxide (Cr2O3) is a kind of dark green powder with metallic luster and belongs to hexagonal or amorphous crystal. Cr2O3 melting point is 2265℃ ~ 2435℃ and Cr2O3 density is 5.2g/cm3. It is a neutral oxide.
 
Chromium oxide has good spraying process performance, its spraying process specification is wide, it is less sensitive to overheating during spraying, and the coating is not easy to crack when local overheating occurs. The spray coating is very dense and has high bonding strength with the substrate, so it is easy to be machined such as grinding and polishing.
 
However, the deposition efficiency of pure chromium oxide powder is low, which will increase the cost of the coating. The chromium oxide coating prepared by flame spraying or plasma spraying is dense and insoluble in acid, alkali and alcohol. After proper sealing treatment, the coating can be used in the environment with chemical corrosion medium.
 
Cr2O3 coatings properties
The chemical properties of plasma sprayed chromium oxide coating are very stable, insoluble in acid, alkali, salt and various solvents, excellent corrosion resistance to medium impregnation, high temperature erosion resistance to corrosive gases such as H2S and SO2, stable to atmosphere, fresh water, sea water and light, but soluble in hot sodium bromide solution. Chromium oxide coating has good hydrophilicity and a uniform water film is formed on the surface of the coating.
 
What are Cr2O3 coatings used for?
Cr2O3 coatings can be used as abrasive wear resistant coating, hard surface wear and erosion wear coating below 540℃, cavitation wear resistant coating, corrosion wear resistant coating for parts used in chemical media below 250℃ (need to be properly sealed), such as pistons, plungers, chemical machinery shafts, pump seals, wear-resistant rings, slide valves, cylinder linings, exhaust fans, polishing and polishing fixtures, etc. Fiber wear-resistant coating, such as guide wheel, friction wheel, roller roller of chemical fiber spinning machine, magnetic conductive and wear-resistant coating, such as tape recorder head, etc.
The sprayed Cr2O coating is dark dark green with strong covering ability and high and stable thermal emissivity in a wide range of off-line wavelengths. Commonly used in infrared radiation coating (such as electric heating pipe coating), high temperature magnetic conductive wear-resistant coating, etc.
